Learning objectives (text)

The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, mainly on the level of the skeleton.

The student is able to use this knowledge and apply it in an artistic way on 2-dimensional artistic material.

Learning outcomes (list)

BA2 - The student has the necessary knowledge, skills and insights regarding material, form, action, concepts, function and contents of the chosen medi
The student can identify and name the learned parts of the skeleton and muscles.
The student can translate the acquired knowledge of the anatomy of the human body into a 2D carrier.

Learning objectives

The student has a basic knowledge of human anatomy, with the emphasis on the skeleton, and is able to apply that in his/her own artistic exploration.

Course content

Anatomy: The development of a human body in relation to its environment is being discussed. There is a summary of the history of anatomy, of the formation and changes of the anatomy during human life, and of symmetry in the human body. Important muscles and  tendons, but mainly bones and joints are being discussed in terms of material, form and appearance, as well as the relationship between these and their function. Application of anatomical knowledge is discussed, consulting existing works of art. The connection is made between the superficial form and internal structures.

Anatomy drawing: the student draws several anatomical parts (e.g. skull, pelvis, thorax,...) and their interrelated proportions. In this process he/she also consults examples from books and plaster models. He/she draws the skeleton as a whole and in parts, and learns to see and reproduce the human skeleton as a complex construction assembled from several different basic volumes. The student also draws a living nude model: e.g. changes in form, caused by movements are investigated. The relation is investigated between the forms at the surface of the body and internal structures, mainly in terms of skeleton parts.
