Learning objectives (text)

Toxicology and safety
The student
- knows the basic concepts of toxicology and safety in the design and use of the painter's studio.
- can correctly interpret the labels used on the products and adjust appropriately its behavior.
- knows a number of symptoms that should compel him to, if necessary, to seek specialized help.
- is able to select and apply the most appropriate general and personal protective equipment.

Art and marginality
The student
- has a broader vision of the phenomenon of 'art' by studying art created by specific groups such as children, psychiatric patients, victims of war, etc.

Textual facet portfolio
The student
- aims to reflect on his personal artistic research and can situate this research compared to the contemporary trends in the Visual Arts.
- can write a concise commentary on his own work.

Course content

Toxicology and safety for painters:
Based on some real dangers that threaten the painter as the frequent ' organic psycho syndrome ' or allergies to all kinds of substances, a number of important topics from toxicology, such as toxicity, mac-value, assessment of the risks and the difference between acute and chronic poisoning. The student learns to read and interpret labels and develop both preventive and curative measures. Also some essential topics related to safety and the establishment of the Studio are discussed.

Art and marginality.
The relationship and the differences between art of specific groups, such as psychiatric patients and so-called professional art, are briefly described and preferably on the basis of the visit to current exhibitions.

Textual facet portfolio
the student gets formal and substantive guidance when writing comments on own plastic work. This comment serves as interpretation and addition to the imagery in his portfolio.
