Short description

The students will study conscious and unconscious 'surreal' situations, images, events, compositions or constellations in their respective national culture: first of al sculpture and in situ art, but also painting, litterature, architecture, music, theatre, dance, cinema, gaming, television, press, social media, religion, politics, educational systems, history and so on.

They will each give a lecture supported by images and texts which will be made available to the other students.

They will write short texts about it.

They will present their findings in a small publication intended for the writer Vincent Van Meenen, currently writing a PHD on surrealism at the University of Antwerp.

The student has acquired new insights with regard to contemporary sculpture, can enrich them with a personal viewpoint and relate it to his or her own work.

The student masters an has insight in the topics and content provided by the teacher with regard to contemporary sculpture.

BA5 - When developing his/her personal visual language the students starts from a searching and reflective attitude when developing one's own visual language.
The student can enrich his insights concerning contemporary sculpture with a personal point of view and relate them to his own work.

Learning objectives

Insight in the definitions and descriptions of surealism, the discovery of 'surealistisc' elements in the proper culture, learning how to relate about this in texts, lectures, verbal participation during class and a self-created publication.
