Learning outcomes (text)

The student has knowledge of the theoretical aspects and challenges in management, artistic leadership and innovation . He / she obtains a better understanding of the field of visual arts by getting familiar with several examples of arts organizations and institutions . The student acquires knowledge on strategic planning by analyzing the mission and strategic goals of the presented organizations and how they translate their goals into daily action, and can apply such an analysis on an example chosen.

Learning outcomes (list)

MA1 - The student has an artistic and autonomous attitude and continues to develop his/herown art practice.
The student has acquired insight into the field of visual art by acquainting himself with various examples of art organizations and institutions.
The student has, by analyzing the mission and the strategic goals of the organizations presented and seeing how these translate their goals into daily operations, acquired knowledge about strategic planning.
The student is able to analyse a self chosen example
MA2 - The student takes final responsibility when designing and/or realizing a personal artistic project.
The student has knowledge of the theoretical aspects of, and challenges concerning management, artistic leadership and innovation.

Course content

Next to a theoretical introduction to the history and the current interpretation of art management and management practice, and some examples that point out the actual challenges in management and the importance of innovation and disruption, we focus on real life examples from the visual arts field . During this course we are introduced to the mission, goals and daily operation of some key actors in the art field. We do this on the basis of leading examples and practice testimonials
