Short description

Social work is a normative profession that is guided by an (international) professional ethical framework. We explore the theoretical foundations and the building blocks of professional ethics. In addition, you will get an introduction to the importance of ethical conduct for social work from different perspectives. We look at the meaning of human rights, freedom - justice - equality, tolerance and professional secrecy. We also pay attention to the social framework and legitimisation framework within which social work operates. Furthermore, we introduce the building blocks of the capability approach as a compass for social work. In this course we offer you conceptual frameworks and a hold for the social agogic practice. You will also receive building blocks for in-depth deontological and professional reflection.

Introduction to ethics: Morality and ethics / Normative theories

Professional ethics: From ethics to profession / Central value and professional attitude

B. Framework for Action:

Working with moral problems

Professional relationship with the client

Social function of social work

C. Thematic:

The classes and the digital learning paths also address current ethical themes that are examined on the basis of intros and text material for their relevance to Social Work.


Not all themes are discussed in detail in the classes. Students also process content on their own and/or via the digital learning paths and the digital MyLab function in the handbook.
