Short description

The focus is on the specific position of the social worker as an actor between people and society.

The course starts from the (international) current state of affairs and exposes structural connections and processes of change that steer the identity of the profession. The central focus is on professional identity, the societal position and the legitimation of social work. Social work and society builds on previously acquired insights from the previous phases of the programme. The subject integrates professional and social scientific frameworks and contains an active component in which you read, process and engage in dialogue yourself.

We also build a reflective framework on the basis of the capability approach, a model for human development that we apply to social work. On the basis of an assignment linked to the subject of Practice Lab, we apply the principles of this approach to a concrete practice.

1. Society and profession

We link thematically with the 2018 social work conference and the scientific report to this conference, for current affairs we use publications such as www.sociaal.net and www.socialevraagstukken.nl as a basis.

The focus is on positioning social work (social work) from a human rights and social justice perspective as a foundation for social work.

2. The capability approach as a framework for human development and social justice.

Using the conceptual and ethical basis of the capability approach, we investigate the identity, agenda and topicality of social work (social work). On the basis of an assignment linked to the subject of Practice Lab, we apply the principles of this approach to a concrete practice.

Each of the themes includes reading assignments that are outside the contact moments.
The student processes the contents into a workbook.
