Short description

The students are invited ton reflect upon the development of their own work, the work of fellow students and the oeuvre of well-known artists.

They give a lecture about the development of their own work, pointing out the original narrative structures, images,  ideas, concepts, intentions or motivations that have set them into motion, the stories, images, ideas, materials and techniques that have used later and the unforseeable events that have taken place and have influenced the final result.

The students have to be present during each class.

This is an optional course. Students that cannot attend it, cannot enlist.

Educational organisation (text)

The students will learn about the evolution of the work of some contemporary visual artists. They will also be invited to speak about the evolution of their own work and to relate this to general insights discussed in class. They can do this in their studio. If possible, two young artists will be invited to speak about their work.

Prerequisite competencies (text)

No specific requirements.

Learning outcomes (list)

BA5 - When developing his/her personal visual language the students starts from a searching and reflective attitude when developing one's own visual language.
The student understands that the oeuvre of an artist often does not come about as a result of a conceptual strategy, but as a result of a series of successive, ad hoc decisions that arise from each other and are related to each other by the materials and techniques used and by the personality (current environment, social origin, upbringing, family situation, age, education, knowledge, experience, skill) of the artist.
The student can discuss and enrich dozens of examples with a personal approach and can apply this insight to his own situation.
