Course content

The first purpose is to explore literature as an art form similar to visual arts, i.e. with regard to its form, its sound, its rhythm and the specific way each author succeeds in creating his or her unique voice or universe. We will also study how a work of art can unfold into different perspectives generated by the readers. And we will look for convergent visual art or the specific interest in art of the author. We learn to read in a critical, creative way. We learn how to think, speak and write about literature.

Study material (text): Mandatory

The authors and books will be chosen after consultation of the students.

We are thinking of authors such as Gustave Flaubert, Marcel Proust, J.L. Borges, Franz Kafka, L.F. Céline, Albert Camus, W.G. Sebald, Bruce Chatwin, Virginia Woolf, Patricia De Martelaere, Richard Brautigan and Clarice Lispector.
