Learning outcomes (list)

BA1 - The student has the necessary artistic skills to design and/or realize a personal project within the broad spectrum of the visual arts under supervision.
The student is able to work in a process-based way.
The student is able to deal critically with various source material and, after a thorough study of a historical period and a historical costume, work out a concept.
The student has knowledge of the design process (research/analysis/concept development) and can translate a concept into a coherent idiosyncratic collection image.
The student can apply the basic principles of design in a well-founded way (lines, proportion, rhythm, balance, observation of the human body, movement).

Course content

During the evaluation of the collection at the “final fitting (pas)” a selection is made by the jury members with regard to the presentation on the catwalk. A different style of presentation can be mutually agreed upon.
- research historical theme: content and graphic imagery - development of a concept and graphic representation - development of a sketchbook - developing first silhouette based on the elaborated concept - thorough individual research as a basis for development of color and fabric choice and collection construction - elaborate workbook with graphic weathering of this research - development of 5 total silhouettes, based on design drawings, free modeling experiments and toile studies - elaboration of accessories and styling.
