Learning outcomes (list)

BA1 - The student has the necessary artistic skills to design and/or realize a personal project within the broad spectrum of the visual arts under supervision.
The student knows the various visual elements.
The student can use his imagining, imaging and portrayal skills, his/her technical skills and knowledge of theatrical dramaturgy and costume history in his/her design practice.
The student knows the different techniques (which were offered through the course or discovered by means of personal research) that offer the possibility of creating three-dimensional form.
The student can make a two-and / or three-dimensional composition (in various materials).
BA4 - The student develops and sharpens his/her critical and investigative attitude towards designs and/or realizations that arise from visual experiments and research, emotion and intuition.
The student is able to explore various possible 2-dimensional expressions and drawing techniques and thus develops his ability to express certain ideas in a creative way.
The student can apply the visual language acquired in the research phase both concretely and abstractly to his own field, in particular costume design and scenography.

Course content

- Developing an inquisitive and questioning attitude.
- Developing "perception" through observational drawing.
- To study various media from both 'high' culture and 'popular' culture, including painting, sculpture, photography and film.
- Developing "image recognition" through dissecting 2-dimensional images, both static and moving, according to purpose and content, composition and techniques used.
- Analysing film within its time and genre, specifically the visual aspects of the medium with regard to lighting, colour, editing, costume, set, movement (and sound).
- To gain insight into the approach to body and costume in film which, unlike other performative arts, is strongly determined by the different cinematographic elements (e.g. close-up, montage etc.)  
- Developing a personal "visual language" by means of various drawing techniques and digital visual material.
- Applying the acquired insights and techniques and learning to communicate in 2- and 3-dimensional visual language.
