Prerequisite competencies (text)

The student is able to handle simple tools. He/she has adequate spatial understanding and is able to convert simple fragments of the human body to clay. The student is familiar with the material clay. The student can draw by observation and has sufficient basic skills for this.

Learning outcomes (list)

BA2 - The student has the necessary knowledge, skills and insights regarding material, form, action, concepts, function and contents of the chosen medi
The student can apply simple technical aspects of modeling.
The student can reproduce fragments (hand, foot, skull, torso) and living model in a constructive way to perception.
You can translate the human anatomy into a 3D carrier in a modeling way.
BA3 - The student knows about and understands the social, cultural, artistic, historical and international context of the visual arts and artistic praxis, and continues to develop this knowledge and understanding.
The student has a thorough knowledge of historical and contemporary examples of sculpture.
BA5 - When developing his/her personal visual language the students starts from a searching and reflective attitude when developing one's own visual language.
The student can construct in clay a small figure study, based on perception, in a constructively and anatomically correct way.
The student can create with clay - from observation - a portrait based on a plaster example in a constructively and anatomically correct way.

Course content

- The student makes a moulage in plaster of his own sculpted hand or foot, his own sculpted portrait and/or his own sculpted torso.

- The student gradually makes several small figure studies in clay. By means of a constructive construction and anatomical research the student comes to a result.

- In the modelling assignments the student learns to use clay step by step. The student learns to use the necessary tools for this.

- The student learns to work according to perception through modelling exercises with an emphasis on construction and construction. Breaking down and rebuilding the clay works are part of the exercise. In addition to the perception of form by means of shadow and light, the focus is on the transfer of contours. The perception and translation of the negative space around the forms also help the students in the constructive perception. The student is given instructions to correctly use a plumb and compass to transfer shapes from the example, to his or her modelling.

- Through drawing exercises, anatomy lessons and observations of the models and the human skeleton, the student gets to know the human anatomy. Through constructive modelling exercises that work from the inside out, he or she learns to translate his/her knowledge into 3D.

- Through the lessons in art history and specific art history the student gets to know the art landscape. During the various practical lessons, visual material and text about both contemporary and historical sculptors are continuously presented and discussed. In addition, the student is stimulated to look for visual and theoretical material about historical and contemporary sculptors.
