Educational organisation (text)

Presentation
The lessons are taught in groups. We also make joint trips and discuss these visits in the form of individual talks or group discussions.
At various times, we study video and audio excerpts together.
The students also receive assignments which they have to prepare individually and present later as a group.

Presentation
Entry level: interest in the performing arts and the vocal repertoire in particular.
Notion of own profile within the vocal department: why am I here?
What am I going to do here and what do I want to achieve?

Scenic improvisation
Interest in the performing arts and culture in general. One should be open to oneself and each other (an 'open' mind in a 'healthy' body). Some experience with physical exercises (movement, dance, etc.) is recommended.

The performance on the entrance exam shows that the student has the right initial competences. See entrance exam's specifications on the website.

Learning outcomes (list)

1.2 The student can make music in various styles.
The student can create a clear discourse, in both written format and by public presentation, about his or her vision of the discipline of opera, using acquired knowledge and technical terminology.
1.4 The student is musically creative.
The student produces an oral and written report of his or her analysis of an opera performance he or she attended and of a theme which was covered during the lessons.
The student can extend his or her boundaries and uses his or her imagination in a creative way when improvising and playing in an ensemble.
2.4 The student masters the correct playing techniques and postures.
The student demonstrates understanding of the possibilities of his or her own body, is conscious of relaxation/tension, breathing, posture, appearance and attitude.
The student functions in an intercultural and international context.
The student demonstrates both orally and in written format that he or she has a conception of the qualities that he or she needs in order to successfully continue on the future training trajectory and possibly use later in professional life
4.3 The student reflects critically on him- or herself and his surroundings.
The student can listen and watch others and can translate this into a professional commentary.

Course content

Read the vademecum.

Presentation
Using audio-visual material, visits to museums, performances (theatre, opera, film) in individual or classroom settings, a discussion forum is set up to exchange the impressions gained.
A methodology to refine the communication on these topics is worked out.
The student learns how to express his opinion clearly and substantively and how to present it formally.

Scenic improvisation
Exercises to promote a supple and flexible body.
Breathing exercises.
Exercises in space (alone or in a group) using music.
Carrying out assignments that allow the student to explore imagination and empathy.
Improvisation exercises.
Working on improvisation and diction on the basis of simple texts.
General preparation for later performance lessons.
