Course content

The course examines the period from modernism to the present day and provides a conceptual and chronological frame of reference for describing and interpreting the stormy development of graphic design in the 20th and 21st centuries.

We consider the influences of modern art on graphic design, graphic design during and after the World Wars, the new styles in Europe, modernism in America, the emergence of corporate identity, postmodernism and the digital revolution. Historical overviews are alternated with a more in-depth study of an oeuvre or graphic designer from this period.
