* Individual lessons in orchestral conducting
* Group lessons
* Class activities
* Practical experience in orchestral conducting
* (Listening) internships with external orchestras ( Opera van Vlaanderen/Antwerp Symphony Orchestra)

* Participation in projects organised by the Conservatoire

Learning outcomes (list)

1.1 The student independently broadens and explores repertoire related to his or her discipline.
The student further develops his or her conducting technique.
1.2 The student masters the internationally used stylistic performance practice standards.
The student acquires knowledge and understanding of orchestra literature from all stylistic periods, from classical to contemporary orchestral music.
1.4 The student makes music in an artistic project in a creative manner.
The student develops his or her own interpretation of orchestral repertoire by means of short periods of observation
2.3 The student can process musical structures through analysis and interpretation.
The student is able to make an in-depth analysis aimed at speeding up the rehearsal process.
3.1 The student can employ his or her social and communication skills in order to take on a leadership role.
The student is able to communicate adequately with an orchestra.
4.1 The student has extensive knowledge of the broader cultural and (musical) historical context and can use this in his or her artistic practice.
The student is able to apply and discuss orchestra literature him- or herself.

Course content

- Conducting technique (specific exercises; specifically applied to orchestra literature)
- Listening exercises (detection of errors, intonation, balance, articulation, style variances, chords)
- Analysis of orchestral works of various styles and periods (from the point of view of harmony, conducting technique, rehearsal technique, style)
- Literature acquisition: history and overview of orchestral literature and implementing this knowledge to put together concert programmes on certain themes
- Students will have practical experience in orchestral conducting and with external orchestras (rehearsals / concerts) on listening interships
- Implementation of research skills
