Korte omschrijving

Intercultural Communication

This course is about intercultural differences and you experiencing them. The heart of the course is an intercultural experience in any setting. In relation to this experience you check your knowledge about the topics of the course. The main focus of this course is the importance of intercultural competence.
Starting with insights on culture and communication the following subjects will be covered: demographic and cultural issues, narrative approach, communication models and patterns, dimensions of culture, cultural adaptations perspectives, culture shock and intercultural competence. The assignments will reflect on your intercultural experience  which will have broadened your horizon and intercultural skills.

Mobility 3

"A four-day study tour takes you to charming Strasbourg, the capital of the Grand Est region in north-eastern France. Located on the banks of the Rhine, bordering Germany, Strasbourg was the scene of many Franco-German wars for centuries. After World War II, Strasbourg became the city of European reconciliation and unification. This fully organised study tour will take you to the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the Struthof-Natzwiller concentration camp, among other places. In short, this study tour immerses you in European spheres, in an attractive city whose historic centre was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List."

Je gaat gepast om met interculturele verschillen tijdens een buitenlandse ervaring en beschikt over de nodige interculturele skills.
Je realiseert een complexe internationale communicatieopdracht door het inzetten van de nodige interculturele skills.

Leerinhoud

Intercultural Communication:

The heart of the course is the intercultural experience in different settings. In relation to this experience you check your knowledge about the following topics of the course:

  • Importance of intercultural communication: demographic and cultural issues.
  • communication models
  • dimensions of culture
  • communication and culture
  • intercultural competences

The assignments for intercultural communication will reflect on your experience. This will broaden your cultural horizon and improve your intercultural communication skills.

Mobility 3:

  • writing a reflection report describing your Strasbourg-experience linked to at least 2 theories from the Intercultural Communication course.
  • interviewing (in-depth) 2 people involved
  • reporting 1 cultural visit or company visit in Strasbourg

Toetsing (tekst)

Voor het onderdeel permanente evaluatie geldt: als je afwezig bent voor een (deel)examen buiten de afgebakende examenreeksen, kan je deze examenactiviteit inhalen op voorwaarde dat:
- Je jouw afwezigheid meldt via de module "Mijn afwezigheden" in Ibamaflex voor aanvang van het (deel)examen.
- Je dient je aanvraag voor een inhaalexamen tezamen met het nodige medisch attest in via de webmodule ‘Mijn afwezigheden’ in iBaMaFlex. Je doet dit binnen 2 kalenderdagen na het gemiste (deel)examen. Indien de 2de kalenderdag een zaterdag, zondag, feest- of verlofdag is, wordt de termijn verlengd tot de eerstvolgende werkdag.
- Je maakt, binnen de 4 kalenderdagen na het gemiste (deel)examen, zelf per e-mail een afspraak met de lector omtrent het tijdstip en de wijze waarop dit (deel)examen kan ingehaald worden.
Je kan slechts één (deel)examen per opleidingsonderdeel inhalen en daarvoor éénmaal een dergelijke afspraak maken. Ben je op die afspraak voor het inhaalexamen ook afwezig, dan kan je het (deel)examen niet meer inhalen.
Je dient het origineel geldig medisch attest te bewaren zodat dit in geval van onduidelijkheid alsnog kan worden opgevraagd.
Voldoe je niet aan de voorgaande voorwaarden, dan heb je geen recht op een inhaalexamen en krijg je bijgevolg 0 op dit (deel)examen.
