Learning outcomes (list)

BA1 - The student has the necessary artistic skills to design and/or realize a personal project within the broad spectrum of the visual arts under supervision.
The student can design an art edition and reproduce in a small number.
The student can adequately use the necessary materials and processes to achieve unity within his design.
BA2 - The student has the necessary knowledge, skills and insights regarding material, form, action, concepts, function and contents of the chosen medi
The student knows the principle of Western and Eastern binding.
The student knows the various possibilities for the realization of a portfolio on beginners' level.

Course content

This course, together with the artistic studio, forms the final part of the BA3 programme. Art edition is a supporting course that lays the foundation for collecting artistic work. Using a number of technical demonstrations and a manual, the student is trained to integrate his/her personal artistic work into an artist's edition. This 'format' can take many forms such as a book, a portfolio, a 'zine', etc.

Besides learning different forms of binding and creating a container, research is also done on book architecture, storyline, etc.

The course guides the student both technically and in terms of content.This course serves as support for the assignments, given in the main studio. The package consists out of a few technical lessons about bookbinding and the production of an art edition, fit for use as a container of prints. Also assistance will be provided for designing en realizing this creative product.
