Prerequisite competencies (text)

The student has an interest for art, contemporary developments in society and the field of practice (jewellery design/ gold- and silversmithing) and:

-shows a permanent drive in acquiring of knowledge in our field of practice.

- has a basic knowledge of how shape, colour..., materials and design/imaging.

-the student shows a creative approach when working on design assignments.

This is tested at the entrance examination.

Learning outcomes (list)

BA3 - The student knows about and understands the social, cultural, artistic, historical and international context of the visual arts and artistic praxis, and continues to develop this knowledge and understanding.
The student is aware of contemporary artistic developments and their societal context.
BA4 - The student develops and sharpens his/her critical and investigative attitude towards designs and/or realizations that arise from visual experiments and research, emotion and intuition.
The student can process the comments of the lecturers.
The student has a thorough work attitude.
The student is self-critical, research-oriented, able to experiment in a goal-oriented manner, can push his boundaries and develop a new vision.
BA5 - When developing his/her personal visual language the students starts from a searching and reflective attitude when developing one's own visual language.

Course content

Conducting introductory research into the specific properties, possibilities and limitations of various materials such as metals, textiles, wood, plastics .... and applying these parameters in a contemporary design (jewellery/object).
Completing the given assignments through introductory research, analysis and critical creative processing of relevant research material.

The student takes part in projects that are part of the curriculum: project weeks, exhibitions, study trips, lectures and other projects relevant to the programme.

Various materials for design and execution of pieces.

inclusive of basic package of hand tools, also needed for Concept and Design 1:
all kinds of personal small tools (files, pliers, tweezers, hammers, soldering materials,
measuring instruments, saw bow, .... (+/- 1000 €), possibly to be purchased in 2 parts
complete list is handed over at the entrance examination
