Short description

We discuss academic and non-academic artistic research through many examples, focusing on how research models and methods are used and may evolve.

Educational organisation (text)

The students are divided into ten groups. The student reads a book and writes a paper of maximum 2 pages about what has moved him or her most in the book. The paper has to contain two quotations from the book and two from secundary sources. The contents and the form of the papers are discussed in class. The book has to be chosen from a list provided by the teacher.

Learning outcomes (list)

BA4 - The student develops and sharpens his/her critical and investigative attitude towards designs and/or realizations that arise from visual experiments and research, emotion and intuition.
The student learns to deal correctly with bibliographic data. The style guide applies as a guideline.
The student can summarize a lecture.
The student can write a paper.
The student can express a personal point of view in writing.
The student can use a reference system in a consistent manner.

Course content

The student develops notions of the way in which famous artists and master students develop their oeuvre and also how they develop a working method that might lead to an oeuvre.

The students write a paper in which they compare existing research methods with their own methods.

The student has to attend the classes in order to be able to write this paper.
