Geslaagd zijn voor een zesde jaar (gelijkgesteld of hoger) secundair en positieve toegangsexamen hebben doorlopen.

Aan de hand van voorop vastgelegde opdrachten leert de student de verschillende basistechnieken van de diepdruk. Deze opdrachten doorlopen de studenten doorheen het academiejaar. Uitleg en demonstraties worden gegeven per opdracht. De studenten ontvangen de omschrijving van  alle opdrachten bij de start van het academiejaar. Indien deze opdrachten niet worden uitgevoerd zoals omschreven kan de studievoortgang in het gedrang komen.

1. TEST TEST
4 plates of ½ A5 each. Make on each plate a line etch of an object, place,...
These four drawings together form a self-portrait. So look for four subjects that are closely related to yourself.
Each plate gets a different etching time.
15min-30min-45min-90min.
print these four pictures on 1 sheet, composition is free but you have to be able to express and explain your choice.

2. ANIMALS/ANTHROPOMORPHISM
With Bardt to the zoo = quick sketches directly on the plates.
Preferable multiple plates A5
with several sketches.
Search up for Outi Heiskanen, Kiki Smith, Bert Want.
look at examples of rembrandt in connection with composition.
After sketching, attribute human characteristics to the animals drawn.
Technique: multiple acid times, lithocrayon, scrape and polish tool.

4. THE SYSTEM.
“Escape from the Primal Chaos”
Find the work of Anton Heyboer, read about his way of thinking and imaging.
Take your own thoughts as a starting point, and visualise them. Think about how two plates can be combined.

technique: etching, drypoint, monotype, coloring on the plate.
Print 2 works of 2 plates combined (monotypes)

5. MAKE IT DISAPPEAR.
“Traces offer new possibilities.”
Choose a usable image from your sketchbook. (A page from your sketchbook is also possible)
Throughout the process, we scrape the image away step by step. The result will be an “empty” print. 1 plate A5
technique: etching, drypoint, aquatint, scrape and polish tool.
5 printed works; each print is a step in the disappearance process.

6. IN THE REALMS OF THE UNREAL.
“insanity is super sanity”
look at and read the work of henry Darger. Visually display your personal thoughts. Make use of collage and repetition. Translate these preliminary studies on plate and colour them in with watercolour afterwards.
1 plate 40cmx20cm (horizontal)
technique: multiple acid times, aquatint, vernis-mou, aquarel.
3 prints, different coloring, no white border around the print, so think of framing possibilities.

7. COLLABORATE. (2- 3 students)
Look at each other's sketchbooks and come together to form one image.
Combine personal theme/visual elements in function of 1 image.
Use all previous techniques. (not the aquarel or monotype)

Basismateriaal, Schetsboeken en tekenmaterieel. Kunstdrukpapieren (in atelier te verkrijgen) Bij de start van het academiejaar ontvangen de studenten een lijst met aan te schaffen materialen. Deze dienen ze zelfstandig aan te schaffen. Indien de student het nodige materiaal niet voorziet kan de studievoortgang in het gedrang komen.

Basic materials, Sketchbooks and drawing materials. Art printing papers (available in studio) At the start of the academic year, students will receive a list of materials to be purchased. They should purchase these independently.If the student does not provide the necessary materials, study progress may be compromised.

(lithocrayon no 0 , etching needle, covering varnish, scrape tool, plastic tape, sandpaper, steel wool, varnish, shear knife, lighter, brush, pencils, file, wide soft brush, hard plastic sheet (0,5mm), copper (available in school), rubber gloves!, safety glasses!)

Permanente evaluatie aan de hand van diverse toon- en werkmomenten, afgesloten met een eindevaluatie op het einde van het academiejaar. Aanwezigheid tijdens de contacturen is aangeraden. Afwezigheid kan de studievoortgang in het gedrang brengen.

Continuous evaluation based on various show and work moments, concluded with a final evaluation at the end of the academic year. Attendance during contact hours is recommended. Absence may compromise study progress.
