Educational organisation (text)

The student is individually supervised, assessed and evaluated in the studio.
This means that participation in the classes and involvement in the studio is essential. In the event of legitimate absence, bring an attestation of absence to the student secretariat as soon as possible. Illegitimate absenteeism may compromise your study progress.

The student has the skills needed to handle the various aspects related to the development of a professional career as an artist.

Learning outcomes (list)

MA1 - The student has an artistic and autonomous attitude and continues to develop his/herown art practice.
The student starts in his artistic research from a personal questioning and point of view, both in the field of thematics and visual language, as in the field of specific plastic processing.
The student has insight into the historical and current visual/audiovisual arts, is able to follow and interpret the evolutions within the artistic field, and position himself within an artistic and intellectual framework.
The student can apply his innovative ability in experiments and improvisations during the work process, thereby defining and optimising his own signature.
The student is able to make decisions and actions (independent) in the best interest of the project.
MA2 - The student takes final responsibility when designing and/or realizing a personal artistic project.
The student is able to design, organise and realise his own artistic project, in an independent, self-disciplined, plan-based and goal-oriented way.

Course content

The student acquires the skills necessary for the professional field through a program offered by the lecturer of this course unit and/or a program proposed and justified by the student himself/herself/themself and approved by the lecturer and supervisor. Proposals by the student for an individual program, if approved by the lecturer, must be submitted to the lecturer before 15 October.

The following aspects may be included in the program:
International and National: Participation in workshop(s), internships/cooperation projects, (international) exchange, lecture(s), visits to (international) exhibitions, study trips, fairs, etc.
Presentation/communication/portfolio: Preparation of a portfolio, proposal for the final presentation (scenography) of the work through a model, visual and verbal communication for the final presentation.
Internship/Field Experience: In institution in the broad field of performative arts or other art institution.

Permanent evaluations and intermediate presentation moments (master sessions) during the academic year.
Semester 1: first indicative evaluation at the end of semester 1.
Semester 2: final jury at the end of semester 2.

Professionalization: a fixed set of lessons on the base of which the student learns to position himself within the professional field, possibly supplemented by contacts with other artists, galleries, critics, cultural institutions, collaborations with third parties, participation in fairs, workshops, lectures.

Continuous evaluation is done on intermediate presentations and control moments, engagement, collaboration, and attendance throughout the academic year by the relevant teachers, promoters, and the full teaching team of the Costume Department. At the final jury, students present their work process in the form of a logbook.

The Master Project/Artistic Practice is presented on the one hand through an oral presentation and on the other hand through an exhibition, video installation, performance, according to the nature of the master research. The form of the presentation is defined in the program compiled/approved by the lecturer. In this program, the lecturer also describes the weights of the various aspects to be evaluated.

The dates for submission of the papers/demonstrations/final presentation will be made known to the student in advance via e-mail (with a Handout), depending on the type of activity to be evaluated.

Evaluation (text)

Continuous evaluation based on weekly meetings, promoter meetings and master sessions (with the whole team of teachers), workshops, internship, collaborations, ... throughout the academic year. Dates for submission of papers/exhibits/final presentation will be communicated to the student via e-mail (with handout) in advance.
Semester 1: First directional evaluation as conclusion of semester 1
Semester 2: Final jury as conclusion of 2nd semester (by teachers, promotor and by Costume Design teaching team).

The student presents his/her/their working process. This can be in one of the following forms, or through a combination thereof: (oral or visual) presentation, written report/reflection, 2D/3D work result, experiences of internships, collaborations, workshops, visits to lectures, performances and exhibitions, internships, ...

The form of the Artistic Practice presentation is a logbook compiled/approved by the holder.
Presentation: Meetings and examination of scenography/presentation of the final work.
Communication: Both verbal and visual communication.
Portfolio: Physical presentation of portfolio.
Internship: Evaluation of the internship is done by the relevant internship supervisor through an internship visit and on the student’s visual internship portfolio and report. These should reflect the course and learning process during the internship. Furthermore, a feedback report on cooperation, work attitude and course of the internship is expected from the internship supervisor. Your internship portfolio and all reports must be present at the jury. The student is in order with the mandatory internship documents. The student respects the deadlines for submitting the internship portfolio.

Regular unauthorized absences may jeopardize study progress. Deadlines for assignments should be respected.
