Learning outcomes (list)

2.1 The student masters the musical parameters and structures.
The student recognises and knows the applicability of musical parameters in the Baroque period.
The student can name, play back and sing in tune all the major and minor scales and all modes.
2.5b The student recognises musical material on hearing it.
The student can name, play back and note cadences in a tonal context.
The student can name and note simple triads and dominant seventh chords in a tonal context.
The student can name, play back and note intervals and chords in a tonal context.
The student can note from memory an unmeasured series of notes in a tonal context.
The student can note a one- or two-voice rhythmic series of notes in a tonal and metrical context.
The student can note elementary binary and ternary rhythmic patterns

Course content

Read the vademecum.

- recognise and name, replay and intonate the intervals second to octave in all qualities
- replaying and notation from memory of 'random lines' (melodic lines, max. 10 notes for Level I)
- recognition, naming and intonation of the triads in root position and inversions and of four-note chords in root position
- replaying triads with changing notes (max. 2 consecutive)
- replay of a series of diphthongs (max 5) with common note
- chord dictation (triads and dominant 7 chord in root position) with given bass or soprano voice
- recognition, naming, repetition and intonation of all major and minor third scales + all modes: Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian, Ionian; pentatonic (Hemitonic and Anhemitonic), octotonic, gypsy Romanian (=Germanic) and Hungarian, mixed, Hexatonic
- replay of short tonal melodic fragments (theme dictation) + transpose
- notation of one-voice + two-voice tonal theme dictation and correction dictation with the intervals consciously seen (homophonic and polyphonic), both from the piano and via CD fragments
- recognition and naming of cadences
- construction of listening skills on the basis of music fragments from different styles, cultures... via CD recording
