Course content

Outline of classical music history from antiquity to the present.
* a concise sketch of the history of music before the 17th century
* discussion of the 17th century to the present with links to jazz music where possible (improvisation in the Baroque period, motivic treatment in classicism, use of pentatonics (impressionism), influences Schoenberg, Ligeti, Messiaen,...)
