Learning outcomes (list)

1.1 The student masters the representative repertoire for his or her discipline.
The student acquires further basic theoretical knowledge of the various styles and periods.
1.2 The student can make music in various styles.
The student knows the stylistic elements of the entire repertoire.
2.1 The student masters the musical parameters and structures.
The student masters basso continuo techniques (the function of basso continuo, chord progressions and positions, the reading of figures, knowledge of keys, playing from facsimiles, etc).
2.3 The student reads, analyses, writes and interprets music.
The student translates this acquired knowledge from continuo treatises into practice.

Course content

Read the vade mecum Keyboard instruments.
* Mastery of basso continuo techniques (basso continuo function, chord connections and positions, number reading, key knowledge, facsimile playing...)
* Practical style study of the entire repertoire
* Practical application of knowledge from historical sources and treatises to achieve historically informed performance. This forms the student into an independent musician.
* Interaction with other musicians

Study material (text): Mandatory

Basso Continuo lessons take place in the beautiful museum Vleeshuis and are taught on the magisterial original harpsichord by Ioannes Daniel Dulcken from 1747. In addition, the conservatory owns two fine harpsichords, one by Michael Johnson (after Goermans) and one by Jan Boon (after an anonymous Italian instrument from around 1750).
