Short description

This course will help you become more comfortable with a camera, work in a professional photo studio and fully explore your creative potential. This course gives you all the tools to gather the technical knowledge you need for technical design.
We not only teach the technical essentials of photography but also learn how to use photography in design assignments.
Topics covered include: focusing, lenses & focal length, metering, ISO, apertures, depth of field, shutter speeds, manual exposure balancing, white balance, controlling movement, composition, composition, light understanding, using flash photography in a studio environment, reportage and post-processing.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Learning outcomes (list)

By understanding the nature and arrangement of the light source, you can depict and abstract various aspects of an object.
You handle light sources correctly.
You make the right choice from the range of objectives.
You are able to create a commercial photographic media output according to technical feasibility
You demonstrate your understanding of photographic language, in particular the relationship between content, design and technique.
You demonstrate your insight into the photographic approach using flash lighting and camera in studio.
You demonstrate your insight into the imaging of people, objects and space.

  • material knowledge (camera, lenses, light)
  • iso-diafragm-shutter speed
  • composition
  • light and flash metering
  • light control on location (daylight, artificial light, flash).
  • Exercises: composition, product photography, model/portrait photography, reportage on location (building, interior, machine/handling)
