Prerequisites

Prerequisite competencies (text)

Successfully finished the CAD1 course or have followed level1 Rhino course previously and elsewhere or experience with other 3d modelling software. The student will proof his/her level by presenting personal work.

Learning outcomes (list)

BA1 - The student has the necessary artistic skills to design and/or realize a personal project within the broad spectrum of the visual arts under supervision.
The student can work out assignments (under supervision of the teacher).
BA2 - The student has the necessary knowledge, skills and insights regarding material, form, action, concepts, function and contents of the chosen medi
The student can apply his/her knowledge of the CAD1 course to their own designs of specified assignments
The student can analyze a 3D model and convert it into a detailed technical drawing.
The student can visualize their own designs via the built-in Rhino renderer and the Brazil render package.
The student understands both the possibilities and the limitations of common 3D printing techniques and possible printing materials.
The student can import and export specific file types (eg dwg, ai, jpg) from Rhino (e.g.iges, stl, pdf).
The student can model a perfectly closed 3d model that is suitable to order as a 3D print via an online 3d print service.

Course content

Refreshing the most important Rhino commands.

Modelling designs of 3 types of setting in 3D. Making a detailed technical drawing and rendering of these designs. These designs are also constructed in the atelier.

Independently designing a 3d model within a given theme, with the aim of executing it it as a 3d print. A technical drawing and rendering of this design are also made.

Study material (text): Mandatory

The course provides access to the computers in the multimedia lab and a temporary licence for the software Rhino 3D.

Students may bring their own laptops for the classes, this is not obligatory.

Students take notes during the classes, and receive information on where they can find reliable tutorialswith extra information.
