The student can independently process various forms of information about artistic topicality into an up-to-date frame of reference.

The student can situate the oeuvre of a self-chosen visual artist from this period and interpret it in a personal way.

The student knows and understands the Western art developments of the forties, fifties and sixties of the 20th century.

Course content

A documentary overview of the recent Western art developments of the forties, fifties and sixties of the 20th century, supplemented with an overview of the recent exhibitions, events and publications in relation to the contemporary visual arts. Currents that will be discussed are Cobra, Abstract expressionism, Situationism, Nouveau Réalisme, Fluxus, Happening, Popart and Minima Art. We will look into the history of exhibitions and publications, as well as the key representatives of these developments.
