Course content

Assignment:
By means of "still life, portrait and landscape", the grammar (technical and expressive features) of the painterly language is studied and applied: construction, geometric structure, composition, surface temperance, movement, rhythm, tonality, light and shadow, color effect (complementary contrast, simultaneous contrast, hot / cold contrast), by using the mid-tone in the construction of a painting, using transparent and opaque paint, using paint texture and material display, objectivity and subjectivity of perception. The assignments in the studio's are related if possible to the work of important artists in the historical and more recent evolution of painting. A great deal of attention is given to the development of a broad frame of reference (canon) in the field of arts. The students learn to test their own research project and place it within a broader (art historical) context.

Autonomous work:
The student is free to choose the subject and the manner of elaborating his idea according to his own vision and creativity. He acquires more insight into his artistic world. Both the chosen theme (content, concept) as the personal plastic translation will be discussed individually and in group. A more thorough introduction to the profession will be encouraged in the form of joint visits to Antwerp and Brussels Art galleries, various museums and contemporary exhibitions in Belgium and if possible abroad.
