Course content

'Concept dramaturgy 1' course is an introduction to dramaturgy. Dramaturgy is the science/study/art/technique of the composition and production of performances.

Introductory lectures introduce the definition, history and different forms of dramaturgy. Students are taught various tools and techniques to engage in dramaturgical work. They learn how to make a literary analysis, how to develop a dramaturgical concept, how to translate these ideas to the stage, how to create a scene and how to present a dramaturgical concept.

This course is part of a collaboration between several Atelier courses, including Costume Design, Scenography and 3D Costume Sculpting. A major Atelier assignment requires students to develop a dramaturgical concept and scene based on a theatre text.
