The student can use a coherent personal visual language when constructing a human figure from clay.
The student can construct in clay a small figure study, based on perception, in a constructively and anatomically correct way.
The student can construct in clay a life-size figure study, based on perception, in a constructively and anatomically correct way.
The student can create with clay - from observation - a portrait based on a plaster example in a constructively and anatomically correct way.

Course content

- In BA1 and BA2, the student has acquired knowledge around the construction and anatomical building of a life-size figure in clay. He or she can now use this basis to achieve freer and more personal study. Using design sketches in clay and on paper, he or she arrives at personal designs. The insights gained into traditional and contemporary sculpture enable personal choices in form, content, and texture.

- By building and realizing two personal life-size figure studies and some preliminary studies, the student learns to progress. After the simple moulage exercises in BA2 and BA3 on standard forms, the student has now had the opportunity to moulage more complex forms in various materials. Through the more complex poses of life-size figures and the ability to solve them more freely and personally, the student is encouraged to explore options and solutions towards construction and interpretation.

- Step by step, the student creates several small figure studies in clay. Through constructive construction and anatomical research, the student arrives at results.

- Through design sketches on paper and in clay, the student learns to arrive at his or her own interpretation of the model. The focus in the final realisation of a life-size clay sculpture is on personal interpretation. The student learns to make personal choices according to form, dynamics, plasticity, balance, rhythm, and skin. The student has the opportunity to relate the model study to work from autonomous practice.

- Through art history and specific art history lessons, the student learns about the arts landscape. During the various practical lessons, visual material and text on both contemporary and historical sculptors are continuously presented and discussed. In addition, the student is encouraged to search for visual and theoretical material on historical and contemporary sculptors on his/her own.

Evaluation (text)

Continuous evaluation using show and check points throughout the year, culminating in a final evaluation at the end of the academic year.
