Learning outcomes (list)

2.1 The student masters the musical parameters and structures.
The student can name simple forms and structures using classical examples and is capable of applying this knowledge to the primary and secondary parameters.
The student knows and has understanding of simple parameters (pitch, duration (length of notes), dynamics, tone colour (timbre) and placement) and composite parameters (melody, harmony, rhythm, meter, orchestration, texture, density and tessitura).
2.2 The student makes progress through independent study.
The student eliminates specific shortcomings and deficiences by independent study.
2.3 The student reads, analyses, writes and interprets music.
The student can independently read a score, and understand and critically analyse it.
2.5b The student recognises musical material on hearing it.
The student can make a simple aural analysis without use of the score.
4.2 The student possesses the correct tools to carry out research.
The student marries up analytical skills with the course content and skills within the subject Research, and vice versa.

Crucial to the course is the search for deeper connections and a correct understanding of the notated music; in this way, tools are provided that can lead to a meaningful interpretation and appreciation of a score.

- Teaching general basic concepts: musical parameters, standard forms, genres, rhetoric
- First introduction to different systems of analysis (classical form theory, function theory, Schenkerian analysis, topoi ...)
- Music literature mainly from Classicism
- Developing research skills
