Short description

Educational organisation

The student receives weekly individual lessons from the teacher where improvements take place from independently completed exercises or style compositions.


1.4
The student is able to creatively incorporate harmony and counterpoint into written exercises and stylistic compositions in Late Baroque style.

2.1
The student acquires knowledge and understanding of chord theory: all seventh chords in all inversions, seventh chords on the leading note, alterations, different types of secondary dominants and modulations.

2.2
The student studies the course, analyzes music and harmonizes weekly assignments and makes style compositions.

previously registered for Harmony and Counterpoint - major 2.

Learning outcomes (list)

1.4 The student is musically creative.
The student is capable of processing harmony and counterpoint in a creative way in written exercises, paying attention to stylistic matters, phrasing, technique and musicality: HARMONY - combined exercises (harmonising from a soprano or bass line), COUNTE
2.1 The student masters the musical parameters and structures.
The student further extends his or her acquired knowledge and understanding of chords (up to and including Franckian chromaticisim) and counterpoint (3- or 4-voice decorated chorales with fore-imitations) and can apply this.
2.2 The student makes progress through independent study.
The student shows potential and eliminates specific shortcomings or deficiencies using individual assignments and systematic completion of exercises.
2.3 The student reads, analyses, writes and interprets music.
The student develops a personal musical understanding of a score by writing harmony and counterpoint him- or herself.

Harmony: Late Baroque
-chord theory: seventh chords in all inversions, seventh chords on the leading tone, alterations, different kinds of secondary dominants and modulations.
-ornaments: all ornaments
Harmonization and composition of chorales in the style of J.S. Bach
Counterpoint: Baroque
2-voice invention
3-voice counterpoint and 2-voice canon with free bass
