Learning outcomes (list)

2.1 The student masters the musical parameters and structures.
The student acquires knowledge and understanding of more complex forms and structures using broad examples and is capable of applying this knowledge to the primary and secondary musical parameters.
2.2 The student makes progress through independent study.
The student eliminates specific shortcomings and deficiences by independent study.
2.3 The student reads, analyses, writes and interprets music.
The student can independently read a score, understand and critically analyse it, and develop an independent vision of it.
2.5b The student recognises musical material on hearing it.
The student can make aural analyses without the score and can use and apply various analytical systems.

Course content

Read the vademecum.
Crucial in the course is the search for deeper connections and a correct understanding of the notated music; in this way, tools are provided that can lead to a meaningful interpretation and appreciation of a score.

- Analysis of more complex works with extension to Late Romanticism, Impressionism and 20th century, with emphasis on harmonic evolution.
- All instrumentation, always focusing on literature of own instrument (especially for Instrument/Vocal students)
- Discussion of interesting publications, e.g. DE LA MOTTE, D., Harmonielehre and SCHOENBERG, A., Structural functions of harmony
- Developing research skills
