Short description

In the last years, sustainability has been placed high on the agenda of businesses, organizations and governments. To achieve a more sustainable economy and society, we will need to change the mindset of people of all generations. The first step in this process is creating awareness and a feeling of urgency that we need to change behavior and processes. In this workshop, we will develop a VR concept that can be used to create an awakening experience for a chosen target group concerning sustainability.

‘Immersive storytelling’ means as much as overwhelming the audience with your story. The idea exists that Virtual Reality (VR) may lead to more immersive stories. In the last decades, VR applications have mostly been restricted to lab environments and specialized industries. Thanks to several market launches of head-mounted displays, 360° cameras, game accessories, virtual reality hard- and software, VR applications have recently become within reach of consumers. Therefore, the potential breakthrough of immersive storytelling for a large audience challenges the field.

Students will learn what Immersive Storytelling is and gain insight into the definitions and specific terminology of Extended Reality, the concept of Immersion, and the ways in which we can introduce immersion. By creating a story on awareness of the need of a more sustainable mindset, students will gain insight into best practices of applications of Immersive Storytelling in education and corporate learning.
