Short description

This course focuses on the essence of Public Relations: retaining good relations with crucial target groups such as action groups, governmental institutions and the close envinronment in which corporations and organizations operate. Quite often this includes capitalizing on public opinion and maintaining a good relationship with the press. This course also analyzes the working of the European decision-making process in order to understand how decisions can be influenced. The course includes typical lobbying techniques and strategies.

Course content

This course investigates the essence of Public Relations: retaining relations with crucial stakeholders as political decision makers, political parties and action groups. Quite often this includes capitalizing on public opinion. This course analyses the working of the European decision-making process in order to understand how decisions can be influenced. The course includes typical lobbying techniques and strategies. This is illustrated by means of some important issues and an analysis of the strengths of the different stakeholders involved.

Evaluation (text)

First exam period
60%: written exam based on the knowledge of syllabus, powerpointslides, guest lectures and newswatching
40%: group presentation => stakeholder analysis of a national or a European legislative proposal

Second exam period
The scores of the partial exams (60% written exam and 40% group presentation) are counted up in the first exam period. If you have a total score of less than 50% you should redo the parts for which you did not succeed. The score of the part for which you succeeded in the first exam period will be transferred to the second exam period. A group presentation in the second exam period will be replaced by an individual assignment.
