Short description

Portfolio Research offers students tools to embrace, explore and analyse their own artistic identity in relation to the dance field. The main activities are reading, discussing and writing. The texts are read together. The texts are related to the dance field and are related to current and social developments.

This course includes the following learning objectives:
Reflects on own artistic practice in a critical way as well as on its relation to the artistic and social field
Integrates knowledge from other sources and translates this to the own research question
Articulates a personal writing style that demonstrates ability to observe, reflect and analyse
Can define, explore and articulate a personal research topic
Can contribute to a critical and constructive dialogue with peers about texts from the field of art theory
Demonstrates reflection and questioning of own practice, artistic vision and research interests in discussions
Demonstrates organisational and time management skills to complete tasks and link them to the artistic project
Articulates critical reflection on own artistic practice within a broader historical and contemporary artistic context

Course content

Portfolio Research offers students tools to embrace, explore and analyse their own artistic identity in relation to the dance field. The main activities are reading, discussing and writing. The texts are read together. The texts are related to the dance field and are related to current and social developments.

Students are encouraged to contextualise their artistic practice by situating it within this network of references. Through a series of writing assignments and presentations, students are asked to link their own artistic practice to the propositions in the (textual) material. They are encouraged to clearly highlight some of their artistic topics and themes in order to initiate a more in-depth investigation, both in their artistic practice and in their artistic research.

Evaluation (text)

The evaluation consists of two parts:
80% portfolio
20% permanent evaluation

The 'portfolio' part consists of the following assignments:
10% assignment about questions
35% presentation and written assignment manifesto 
35% presentation and written assignment theoretical texts

Re-sit exam
Not all courses have a re-sit exam possibility. Refer to the notification above in this ECTS information sheet for the possibility of a re-sit exam for this course unit.

A re-sit exam:
• is not possible for assessment methods that use permanent evaluation (see evaluation list above). When a re-sit exam is possible for the course, the grade for the permanent evaluation of the first examination period is transferred to the second examination period.
• is possible for the evaluation components that do not include permanent evaluation.

Attendance requirement:

100% attendance in classes is required as the programme is organised in short-term intensive modules. In case of less than 100% attendance, the student will receive 0/20 for the test form permanent evaluation.

Conditions for legitimate absence:

* An absence legitimised by a medical certificate uploaded in iBamaFlex
* Due to an Act of God, if approved by the head of the programme
* Exceptional circumstances, if approved by the head of the programme
