Short description

During the introduction a questionnaire regarding favourite topics is held among the participants.

Traditional film history has been covering the ‘canon’ focusing on the undisputed masterpieces, mostly from the Western hemisphere.Film production over the last 130 years is more than the small fraction that is featured in the BFI Sight and Sound top 250. Several genres have been neglected by ‘serious’ critics (and some rightfully so). The blind spots however unveil significant characteristics of society. Some of these genres (Giallio, Animé, Queer cinema, …) enjoy a cult status and have many followers. In the Other Cinema we would like to tackle these areas. With Susan Hayward’s book ‘Cinema Studies: The Key Concepts(Routledge 2022) as a helpful guide, the students will pick their Favorite topics for discussion.
