Prerequisites

Learning outcomes (list)

BA1 - The student has the necessary artistic skills to design and/or realize a personal project within the broad spectrum of the visual arts under supervision.
The student is able to work in a process-based way.
The student is able to deal critically with various source material and, after a thorough study of a historical period and a historical costume, work out a concept.
The student has knowledge of the design process (research/analysis/concept development) and can translate a concept into a coherent idiosyncratic collection image.
The student can apply the basic principles of design in a well-founded way (lines, proportion, rhythm, balance, observation of the human body, movement).
BA2 - The student has the necessary knowledge, skills and insights regarding material, form, action, concepts, function and contents of the chosen medi

Course content

historical costume:
-research of the chosen costume
- conduct thorough investigation into the chosen historical period, emphasizing graphic imagery and thematic content
- development of a concept and graphic representation
- color and fabric research: engage in individual research that serves as the foundation for informed choices regarding color palettes and fabric selections
- maintain a detailed workbook documenting the evolution, sketches and inspirations derived from historical research. The outcome is an elaborate workbook that graphically represents research findings, including color theories , fabric textures, patterns, technical and free artistic drawings.
- development of construction sensitivity

collection:
- thorough individual research as a basis for development of color and fabric choice and collection construction
-developing first silhouette based on the elaborated concept
- elaborate sketchbook(s) with graphic weathering that graphically represents research findings, including color theories, fabrics, and design drawings
- development of 5 total silhouettes, based in-depth research, design drawings, free modeling experiments and toile studies.
The emphasis is placed on silhouette cohesion, material intelligence , and visual impact.
- elaboration of accessories and styling that complement the overall collection and enhance its presentation

During the evaluation of the collection at the “final fitting (pas)” a selection is made by the jury members with regard to the presentation on the catwalk.
