Short description

This course offers students the opportunity to broaden their perspective by exploring another discipline or educational context. It encourages independence, broadens knowledge and fosters connections between diverse fields of knowledge.

Course content

Would you like to venture beyond the boundaries of your own programme and explore another discipline or programme? You can take an elective course of your choice from the wide range of courses offered by the Academy, the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp or the University of Antwerp. Check whether the classes fit into your own timetable and be sure to discuss your proposal with your study counsellor.

For language lovers and poetry enthusiasts, there is POETRY LAB at the University of Antwerp. Three places are reserved exclusively for students of the Academy. If you would like to apply, please send your letter of motivation to the study counsellor.

Please note: this is NOT a creative writing workshop, although you will also have opportunities to write your own poems. In Poetry Lab, the focus is on discovering and analysing contemporary English-language poetry. You will explore a wide range of mostly recent poems and learn how to interpret them in depth. Assessment is based entirely on continuous evaluation. You will complete short tests and brief writing assignments—for example, justifying why you selected a particular poem from the large online database we use. Your active participation in the seminars is also important. In addition, you will help organise Poetry Night, a mid-year event led by the students.

There is no final exam, and all classes and assignments are conducted in English.
