Course content

The Media & Project studio approaches graphic design as a research-driven practice. It explores how meaning emerges from the relationships between form and context, message and medium, maker and audience. Like an index, each project points beyond itself—toward the systems it engages with. Students investigate how design functions within communication processes, and develop formats that interweave content, interaction, and reflection.

MPGD3 – Bachelor Project

The bachelor project concludes the Graphic Design bachelor's programme. In this individual trajectory, the student develops a personal graphic project based on an initial research question. Within a chosen theme or context, they explore how graphic design generates and communicates meaning in dialogue with form, medium, and discourse. Guided by mentors, the student works toward a project that is artistically relevant, visually strong, and theoretically grounded. Reflection, documentation, and critical positioning are central throughout the process. The bachelor project bridges the investigative studio practice of the previous years with the academic trajectory of the master’s programme. It synthesizes accumulated knowledge and skills, and serves as a stepping stone toward an autonomous artistic path.

Study material (text): Mandatory

Within the framework of this course unit, various graphic design instruments and production methods are used (digital and analogue). In particular, you will need a laptop with a good display, good processor units and sufficient random access memory and disk space to use current graphics software. The educational environment itself mainly uses Apple computers and can provide additional computing power for design processes that require it. You do not need to purchase a personal laptop prior to class: information about this purchase will be made available at the start of the academic year.
