Short description
This full-time, operational internship places students in one of our partner companies in the Belgian hospitality industry. The aim is to immerse students in the daily operations of departments such as Front Office, Housekeeping, or Food & Beverage, with placements tailored to individual experience and background.
The internship lasts 9 weeks (one full module, including exam period) and is designed to help students apply their skills in a real-world setting, demonstrate professionalism, and gain insight into industry standards.
Interns are expected to follow regular working hours, meet performance expectations, and show a proactive attitude. No vacation is allowed during this period, and a summer resit is not available.
Recommended Flahost course combinations:
-European Hospitality and Tourism (3 ECTS)
-Hospitality Management Project (9 ECTS)
- Communication in English (3 ECTS)
Note: This internship cannot be combined with semester-long courses at Thomas More.
Course content
This is a hands-on, operational internship at one of our partner companies in the hospitality sector in Belgium. The goal is to involve you as much as possible in the day-to-day operations of the company.
Most internships are in Rooms Division (such as Front Office or Housekeeping) or Food & Beverage. Other departments may be possible, depending on availability and your background.
We aim to offer each student an interesting and relevant internship, based on their previous training and experience.
Important Information
-Flahost uses a modular system. This means you will have 6 weeks of classes, followed by 2 or 3 weeks of exams.
-To earn 15 academic credits for your internship, you need to work full-time for 9 weeks. This includes both class and exam time — one full module.
When planning your Learning Agreement, please note
-Not all Flahost courses can be combined with the internship. Courses that last two full modules are harder to manage together with an internship.
-You cannot take classes at Thomas More during your internship. Their courses run for the entire semester, and you must attend in person the whole time.
Our recommendation
The internship fits well with the following Flahost courses:
-European Hospitality and Tourism / Module 1–2 (3 credits)
-Hospitality Management Project / Module 2 (9 credits)
Both are based on project and group work.
A good combination could be
-Communication in English / Module 1 (3 credits)
-European Hospitality and Tourism / 1–2 (3 credits)
-Hospitality Management Project / 2 (9 credits)
Then do your internship in Module 2 (November–January).
Internship goals
During your internship, you are expected to:
-Follow the daily workflow and routines of the department.
-Be punctual and perform tasks with care and accuracy.
-Work at a reasonable and professional pace.
-Cooperate well with team members.
-Show a natural sense of hospitality and use polite behavior with guests.
-Maintain a clean, professional appearance and dress according to company standards.
-Communicate respectfully and clearly with colleagues, supervisors, guests, and suppliers—being mindful of cultural and personal differences.
-Show initiative when appropriate and be eager to learn.
-Complete your tasks according to company expectations and standards.
-Work independently and ask for help or feedback when needed.
-Be open to feedback and improve your performance if necessary.
Internship duration and working hours
-You are expected to follow the regular working hours of the internship company.
-You must be present during these hours and may not take long breaks or save up time off.
-If you need to work outside of the internship location (as agreed in your internship contract), inform your supervisor by email in advance.
-In case of illness or other serious absence, inform both the company and your internship supervisor immediately (preferably call the company and email the supervisor). If you're sick, you must provide a doctor’s certificate starting from the first day of absence. Give a copy to both the company and your supervisor.
-You are not entitled to vacation days during the 9-week internship, unless this has been clearly discussed and approved in advance.
A resit of the internship during the summer is not possible.
