Short description

Art Management prepares students for a professional future in which artistic practice and organisational insight are increasingly intertwined. The programme offers a broader perspective on how art functions within institutional, technological and social frameworks, and strengthens the ability to act purposefully, strategically and sustainably in the arts. This provides students with the tools they need to independently shape their artistic careers within a complex and constantly evolving cultural context.

Learning outcomes (list)

MA1 - The student has an artistic and autonomous attitude and continues to develop his/herown art practice.
The student has acquired insight into the field of visual art by acquainting himself with various examples of art organizations and institutions.
The student has, by analyzing the mission and the strategic goals of the organizations presented and seeing how these translate their goals into daily operations, acquired knowledge about strategic planning.
The student is able to analyse a self chosen example
MA2 - The student takes final responsibility when designing and/or realizing a personal artistic project.
The student has knowledge of the theoretical aspects of, and challenges concerning management, artistic leadership and innovation.

Course content

Art Management offers a theoretical introduction to the history of management and explores contemporary practices in art and general management. We discuss current challenges, with a particular focus on innovation and the role of IT in the organisation of contemporary art practices. Using concrete examples and case studies, we discover the importance of innovation and get to know some key actors in the arts field.

Attendance during classes is important. Absences can have a negative impact on your study results.
