Course content

During the Research Week, you will participate in an intensive research class of your choice on a current social, artistic or design-oriented theme. Together with master students from other artistic disciplines within the programme and international artist-researchers, you will work in teams on an experimental project in which reflection, dialogue and collaboration are central.

The research classes are not linked to a studio or medium. They form a valuable, interdisciplinary addition to your curriculum. Through collective processes, you will work towards a public end result, such as a presentation, exhibition, publication or performance.

You can register at the start of the academic year via email and the intranet. Places are limited (approx. 10 students per class) and are allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis. There are no regular classes during this week, so you have plenty of time to explore and gain new perspectives.

Assessment

The evaluation is based on your active participation in all research class activities and a reflective report summarising your insights. The research week is an intensive, concentrated research week that focuses on collaboration in interdisciplinary groups. Full attendance and active participation are required.

Justified absence

In the event of justified absence (e.g. illness, family circumstances), the following conditions apply:

  • You must immediately notify both the research class supervisor and the lecturer concerned by email.
  • You must submit a valid certificate of absence via the absence monitor in iBaMaFlex.

Alternative assignment in case of force majeure

In exceptional cases of demonstrable force majeure, an individual alternative assignment may be provided. This assignment does not replace the group process, but offers an opportunity to still demonstrate the learning objectives of the course.

  • The alternative assignment is intensive, requires independent artistic reflection and includes artistic research, a process document and a comprehensive reflection report.
  • An oral explanation or defence is part of the assessment.
  • The assignment is not intended as an alternative to participation.
  • The assignment can only be used in cases of force majeure, after approval by the lecturers.
