Short description

Students can broaden their perspective by exploring another discipline or educational context. Through an elective course from the Academy, the Royal Conservatoire or the University of Antwerp, students develop an interdisciplinary attitude and increase their substantive and artistic flexibility. It encourages independence, broadens knowledge and fosters connections between diverse fields of knowledge.

Course content

Would you like to explore beyond the boundaries of your own programme and immerse yourself in another discipline or programme? You can take an elective course on your own initiative from the wide range of courses offered by the Academy, the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp or the University of Antwerp. Check whether the courses fit into your own timetable and discuss your proposal with your study trajectory counsellor first.

We have already selected Cultural Entrepreneurship and Innovation @Antwerp University. The Master's programme in Cultural Management reserves 7 places exclusively for students of the Academy.

Content: How do you, as an artist or creative maker, shape a sustainable, future-oriented practice?
Do you want to build a career based on your artistic work, or are you aiming for a broader role in the cultural field? In this interdisciplinary elective, you collaborate with students from the Master of Cultural Management on current issues related to cultural entrepreneurship, innovation, and business models. You explore themes such as design thinking, social innovation, digitization, and how innovation ecosystems operate.

Cultural entrepreneurship and innovation thrive on collaboration: you bring in your artistic or creative expertise, while management students contribute economic and strategic perspectives. This creates a dynamic exchange in which you jointly develop concrete business strategies linked to your own practice or that of other makers. Active participation and presence are essential: you commit to group work where collaboration, dialogue, and creative thinking are central.

Assessment: You write two papers: one individual paper (50%) and one group assignment + jury presentation (50%) focused on designing a sustainable business model for a real-life case from the creative sector. Participation is monitored through a peer review.

Note: Active participation and a high degree of self-initiative are expected.
