Course content

During International Design Week (IDW), you will work together with fellow students and international artist-researchers in an intensive, experimental workshop week that focuses on intercultural, international and interdisciplinary collaboration. Within a range of research classes — each based on current social, artistic or design-oriented issues — you will have the opportunity to broaden your horizons and critically question your position as an artist in a broader context.

IDW brings together Master's students in Fine Arts from the Academy with Master's students from the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp, with backgrounds in architecture, interior architecture, product development, heritage studies, urban planning and spatial planning, among other fields. This cross-pollination between disciplines creates a unique context for groundbreaking thinking and doing.

The week is spent working intensively in teams: you will collaborate closely in an international and interdisciplinary team, in which group dynamics, communication and mutual respect are essential. This requires active participation and taking responsibility.

IDW is explicitly aimed at developing competencies that are essential for contemporary artistic practice: the ability to situate your practice in a diverse world, to collaborate across disciplines, and to engage in dialogue with current social and cultural themes that are also relevant outside your own context through artistic research.
