Short description

This course aims to provide you with

- a comprehensive introduction of the main aspects and topics related to global financial markets and its participants
- a fundamental understanding of the key drivers, features and developments in global financial markets

Ideally you already have had an introduction course in previous years.

Where possible, we will invite guest lecturers from the field and include actual topics, to keep an eye on the current developments in financial markets.

The language of instruction is English.

The student uses business English as a lingua franca in an international context. This course unit involves an internationality activity abroad. When you are registered for this course unit, this implies that you agree that a reservation for the international activity is made for you and that you will pay the costs related to the course unit (transportation, accommodation, ...). Free de-registration is possible until the cut-off date of this course unit.

OLR FV 1 - The bachelor BM/FV has insights in the processes and rules inside the finance and insurance sector, in general corporate organisational processes as well as in their interconnection, and can consequently apply these insights in a broad, globalised and changing (inter)national context.

You clarify the characteristics and properties of the various financial instruments.

You compare the various types of banking activities with their characteristics and differences.

Chapter I – Banking and financial institutions: including role of Central Banks
Chapter II – Global financial markets: money market, capital market, bond market, stock exchanges
Chapter III – Foreign exchange markets
Chapter IV – Options and derivative markets: futures, forwards, swaps
Chapter V – Trends and actual topics in global financial markets

Additional reading and course material of actual topics may be added.
