Learning outcomes (list)

BA1 - The student has the necessary artistic skills to design and/or realize a personal project within the broad spectrum of the visual arts under supervision.
The student can work out an assignment through research, planning, documentation, execution and presentation
BA3 - The student knows about and understands the social, cultural, artistic, historical and international context of the visual arts and artistic praxis, and continues to develop this knowledge and understanding.
The student can selectively read critical texts and place them within a broader cultural framework.
The student can position himself within the widest possible reference field.

Course content

Literacy & Interpretation focuses on method: developing critical skills and interpretative tools to analyse graphic work and visual culture. Students are introduced to hermeneutic approaches that frame interpretation as an active and context-sensitive practice. Through close reading, discourse analysis, and reflective writing, they deepen their ability to unravel meaning in text and image.

LIGD3 – Advanced Level

Study material (text): Mandatory

Various graphic design tools and production methods (both digital and analog) are used within this course. A laptop with a good screen, strong processors, and sufficient memory and storage to run standard graphic software is required. The educational environment mainly uses Apple computers and can provide additional computing power for demanding design processes. You don’t need to buy your own laptop before the start of the year; purchase guidelines will be provided at the beginning of the academic year.

Evaluation (text)

First semester: the students are provided with a variety related to digital literacy. In a groups of 2-4 students, these texts are to be critically worked out. As a final outcome, the groups are to hand in a reader's booklet containing a different text types produced together. This booklet is to be orally presented to the rest of the class at the end of the semester.

Second semester: based on the readings of the first semester and additional references, the students are to create their own texts. These are to be handed in by the end of the semester and presented again orally.
