Learning outcomes (list)

BA1 - The student has the necessary artistic skills to design and/or realize a personal project within the broad spectrum of the visual arts under supervision.
The student can process a given assignment personally and plastically.
BA5 - When developing his/her personal visual language the students starts from a searching and reflective attitude when developing one's own visual language.
The student experiments with different materials.
The student studies the different possibilities with regard to the presentation of his plastic work.
BA6 - The student understands the characteristics of his/her personal designs and/or realizations and is able to communicate about this in an appropriate manner.
The student can articulate the development of his creative process.
BA7 - The student is able to organize his/her artistic project in consultation with others.
The student respects the deadlines and is able to finalise and present his work on time.

Course content

Course Content 1

Artistic Assignments and Exploration of the Medium

Exploration of sculpture through a variety of artistic assignments and studio exercises.
Experimentation with form, material, scale, volume, and spatial composition within a three-dimensional context.
Introduction to different approaches to sculpture through observation, research, and artistic experimentation.
Development of an initial understanding of visual possibilities, material expression, and sculptural form.
Encouragement of an investigative attitude through sketches, maquettes, observation, and reflection on the working process.

Course Content 2

Material, Form, and Construction

Introduction to basic skills in working with different materials, techniques, and tools within sculpture.
Exercises focusing on form, volume, construction, spatial dynamics, and presentation.
Investigation of material properties, technical possibilities, and simple constructive solutions within sculptural assignments.
Introduction to additive, subtractive, and assemblage-based working methods within the studio environment.
Attention to the safe handling of materials, tools, and workshop infrastructure.

Course Content 3

Reflection and Exchange

Reflection on the individual working process and the development of artistic choices within practical assignments.
Discussion of personal work and that of fellow students during feedback sessions, group discussions, and presentation moments.
Exercises focused on articulating artistic intentions, working processes, and visual decisions.
Presentation of artworks, documentation, sketches, and research material during evaluation and reflection sessions.
Introduction to historical and contemporary examples in sculpture through visual material, texts, and group discussions.

Evaluation (text)

Permanent evaluation based on various presentation and review moments during the academic year, mid-term evaluation at the end of the first semester, concluded with an end evaluation at the end of the academic year. Evaluation is based on presence and active participation in class and completion of the assignments in time.
