Course content

'Concept dramaturgy 1' course is an introduction to dramaturgy. Dramaturgy is the science/study/art/technique of the composition and production of performances.

Introductory lectures introduce the definition, history and different forms of dramaturgy. Students are taught various tools and techniques to engage in dramaturgical work. In this course students learn how to make a literary analysis, how to develop a dramaturgical concept, how to translate these ideas to the stage, how to create a scene and how to present a dramaturgical concept.

This course is part of a collaboration between several Atelier courses, including Costume Design.

Evaluation (text)

The evaluation of the course ‘Concept Dramaturgy’ consists of several parts, over the course of several assignments:

  • Analysis of literary texts and characters
  • Development of a dramaturgical concept for the staging of a teatre text
  • Creation of a theatrical scene
  • Creation of a theatrical character
  • Presentation of your dramaturgical concept
  • Attendance and engagement in the classes (permanent evaluation)

Permanent ongoing evaluation and presentations during the academic year:

  • Semester 1: initial indicating jury after completion of the first semester
  • Semester 2: final jury after conclusion of the second semester
