Course content

Introduction to the Arts and Humanities 2 builds on the course Cultural Currents 1 and covers the period from the late interwar years of the 1920s to the end of the 20th century and contemporary art. The developmental trajectory followed here is the issue of 'border'/'limitation,' inherent to 20th/21st-century art and culture. This theme of 'border' or 'limitation' is explored through two notions from aesthetics that fundamentally embody this issue: transgression (crossing boundaries) and the sublime. Using these two concepts, the contemporary art and cultural world are explored, with attention to the further evolution of developmental lines already set out in Cultural Currents 1 (vulnerability/crisis of beauty...)."
