Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Short description

In this module, you will learn how to design packaging that does more than simply protect and inform. You will create packaging that is technically sound, whilst also reinforcing the brand and stimulating the senses. You will work with existing templates, but will also develop your own complex structures that align with the brand identity and the way the product is used.

You’ll delve into finishing and enhancement techniques, and learn to make choices based on budget, sustainability and visual appeal. Using digital simulations and physical prototypes, you’ll bring your design to life.

Learning outcomes (list)

You optimize existing packaging templates by adapting and/or combining them in function of a specific design context.
You design packaging that fits the branding of your customer and connects to the brand identity and usage context of your end customer.
You independently develop a complex structural packaging design.
You optimize a structural packaging design based on a thorough evaluation.
You describe how finishing and refinement techniques within packaging production influence the end product visually, tactilely and functionally.
You make substantiated choices in finishing and refinement techniques based on the design objective and the production context.
You know the most important printing techniques for packaging.
You create digital simulations of your packaging design on a professional level.
You design multiple types of packaging consistently so that they are scalable for the customer and recognizable for the consumer.
You use structural and/or graphic elements to create a coherent unboxing experience.
You select an appropriate production technique based on material, budget, volume, sustainability, and desired appearance.
